Norwegian-controlled yacht operator SeaDream Yacht Club has selected a Chinese shipyard to build its first new vessel in 25 years.
The company has contracted China Merchants Cruise Shipbuilding to build the 151-metre SeaDream III, which is scheduled to enter service in July 2029. The vessel will accommodate 230 guests and 200 crew.
SeaDream founder and owner Atle Brynestad said the yacht will use hybrid-electric propulsion supported by a large battery system. European suppliers will provide the engines, technical equipment and other systems.
The new yacht is scheduled to depart Hong Kong in July 2029, with its initial deployment covering Japan and South Korea before expanding to Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
SeaDream was founded in 2001 by Norwegian entrepreneur Atle Brynestad and operates two existing luxury yachts.
The newbuild will be constructed at China Merchants Cruise Shipbuilding’s Haimen shipyard in Jiangsu province.
