In the latest World Happiness Report, Nordic countries continue to lead the global happiness rankings, with Finland securing the top position for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. Notably, Singapore has been recognized as the happiest country in Asia, ranking 30th globally. This marks the second consecutive year that Singapore has held this title, despite a five-spot drop from the previous year.
The World Happiness Report evaluates countries based on factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. The 2024 report also highlighted a generational divide in Singapore, with younger citizens under 30 reporting a lower quality of life compared to those over 60. Experts suggest, according to South China Morning News, that younger Singaporeans may feel that the “Singapore Dream” is less accessible to them than it was for previous generations.
Following Singapore, Taiwan ranks as the second happiest in Asia, positioned at 31st globally, with Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines also featuring among the top five happiest countries in the region.
Overall, the report underscores the consistent happiness levels in Nordic countries and highlights Singapore’s leading position in Asia, while also drawing attention to internal generational disparities in perceived quality of life.
