Singapore-based transport group ComfortDelGro and French operator RATP Dev have been selected to operate and maintain the Copenhagen Metro through their joint venture, KBH Metro Partner.
The contract is valued at DKK 17 billion, equivalent to approximately USD 2.7 billion, and covers all four metro lines, 44 stations and 43 kilometres of track.
Operations are expected to begin in September 2027. The contract will run for 12 years until 2039, with an option for a further three-year extension.
Metroselskabet selected KBH Metro Partner following an international tender process involving seven applicants and three prequalified bidders. The Danish metro company said the consortium was chosen based on an overall assessment of price and quality.
The contract has not yet been formally signed. Signing is expected in September 2026 after the statutory standstill period expires.
KBH Metro Partner will replace the current operator, Metro Service, whose agreement expires on 28 September 2027. A transition period involving both operators and Metroselskabet will take place ahead of the handover.
As previously reported by ScandAsia, the Singapore–French consortium was among three bidders prequalified for the contract in September 2025.
The agreement marks ComfortDelGro’s second rail operation in Scandinavia following its entry into the Stockholm Metro. The group already operates several automated rail systems through its Singapore subsidiary SBS Transit.
Copenhagen’s driverless metro runs around the clock. It carried a record 135 million passengers in 2025 and recorded an average operational reliability of 99.3 percent.
