Sweden is looking to strengthen economic and technological cooperation with the Philippines following an enhanced partnership between the European Union and the Southeast Asian country.
In a statement published by the Swedish Embassy in Manila, Team Sweden welcomed the development and highlighted potential opportunities for Swedish companies, researchers and institutions.
The embassy said the enhanced EU-Philippines partnership links closer cooperation with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, which supports investment in infrastructure and sustainable development.
For Sweden, the embassy identified artificial intelligence, digitalisation, innovation and climate-smart technologies as areas where Swedish expertise could contribute to the Philippines’ development priorities.
“We believe this will create new opportunities for trade, investment and knowledge exchange,” the embassy said.
The partnership could also make it easier for Swedish companies and institutions to establish longer-term cooperation with Philippine counterparts, according to the embassy.
Sweden sees the cooperation as an opportunity to support the Philippines’ green and digital transformation while strengthening economic ties between the Nordic country and the Southeast Asian market.
The Swedish Embassy did not specify any new Swedish investments or individual business projects resulting directly from the enhanced partnership.
