Sweden supports student innovation in Malaysia

 

The Great KL Challenge organized by the cross-border initiative Sweden-Malaysia, triple helix collaboration was supported by SAAB Group, KeTTHa (The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology  and Water), Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, Genovasi, Business Sweden,  Linköping University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the Embassy of Sweden in Kuala Lumpur.

The online competition managed by Maria Paulsson Rönnbäck of Student Competition attracted over 1100 talented undergraduate and graduate students from 77 universities. The objective of the event is to engage talented students in developing solutions to the environmental and social challenges facing Kuala Lumpur and encourage international cooperation in these fields. Out of the 1100 candidates, six students were selected as finalists for SAAB, The Great KL Challenge and Innovation Awards.

On May 22, 2013, the 6 finalists were invited to attend a prize ceremony hosted by the Embassy of Sweden in Kuala Lumpur. The four talented students (winners) were announced on this day for their achievement and awarded for their innovative ideas in generating solutions for a greater Kuala Lumpur in a challenge by Bengt G Carlsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia. The prizes include an internship, a study trip to Sweden and innovation programs.

There was a prominent line up of speakers at the reception including Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia, Thomas Linden of SAAB Malaysia, Mark Rozario of Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, Anders Hult of KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Cajsa-Malin Skärström of Business Sweden. Guests from both Malaysian and Swedish organizations namely representative from the Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Green Tech & Water, Ericsson Malaysia,BAE Systems/Bofors, MASBA, University Malaya and Multimedia University were at the event.

The Great KL Challenge: Ms. Chuah Hui Yin of University Malaya

The SAAB Award: Ms. Boh Shi Min of Multimedia University

The AIM Innovation Award: Mr. Tan Wee Li of Sunway University

College & Mr. Bhavik Mehta of University of Nottingham,

Malaysia Campus.

 

After the Prize ceremony members of guests, partners and winners stayed for a networking session and refreshments.
