Sweden’s Chargé d’affaires in Thailand, Per Linnér, met with the country’s Fiscal Policy Office on 21 August ahead of the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok.
Linnér met Nadhavudh Dhamasiri, Deputy Director General of the Fiscal Policy Office. They discussed Thailand’s economic outlook, reform priorities and preparations for the international meetings.
Bangkok will host the annual meetings from 12 to 18 October at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Finance ministers, central bank governors and other representatives will meet to discuss the global economy, financial stability, poverty and inclusive growth.
Thailand last hosted the meetings in 1991. The IMF said their return to Bangkok reflects Asia’s growing role in global economic and financial affairs.
The meetings will also coincide with the 75th anniversary of Sweden joining the IMF and the World Bank. Sweden became a member of both institutions on 31 August 1951.
According to the Swedish Embassy, Sweden plans to contribute to the discussions as Thailand prepares to welcome the international economic community to Bangkok.
