More than 30 Swedish delegates will travel to Bangkok for the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings from 12 to 18 October, according to an announcement by Sweden’s embassy on 6 October.

The delegation includes representatives from three Swedish ministries: Finance, Climate and Enterprise, and Foreign Affairs. The Riksbank, Swedfund and the Nordic-Baltic Constituency Office will also take part.

Riksbank governor to attend

The Riksbank’s calendar confirms that Governor Erik Thedéen and Deputy Governor Anna Seim will attend the IMF meetings in Bangkok from 12 to 16 October.

Ahead of the visit, the embassy hosted two Thai officials who will coordinate arrangements for Sweden’s finance minister and central bank governor.

Phontip Tanompongphandh from Thailand’s Ministry of Finance will serve as liaison officer for the finance minister. Orndaporn Pewngern from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate arrangements for the Riksbank governor.

Preparations build on earlier talks

The embassy also visited the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, where the annual meetings will take place.

The announcement follows earlier Swedish–Thai discussions about preparations. As ScandAsia reported in August, Swedish diplomat Per Linnér met Thailand’s Fiscal Policy Office to discuss the country’s economic outlook and the upcoming meetings.
