Swedish documentary filmmaker Gunilla Bresky is visiting Hanoi this week to present her film Sara with All Her Being at the 16th European–Vietnam Documentary Film Festival.
The film tells the story of Swedish writer and activist Sara Lidman, who travelled to North Vietnam during the Vietnam War and became a prominent Swedish voice opposing the war.
According to the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam, Bresky will also meet young Vietnamese filmmakers during her visit to discuss storytelling, history and memory.
Lidman’s connection with Vietnam forms the historical link between the Swedish filmmaker’s work and the festival, highlighting a lesser-known chapter in the long cultural relationship between Sweden and Vietnam.
The European–Vietnam Documentary Film Festival is being held in Hanoi this week, with Bresky participating as a Swedish representative.
