Denmark is working with Philippine authorities on efforts to strengthen the country’s shipbuilding and ship-repair industry, with a focus on reducing regulatory barriers and exploring digital solutions, according to a Facebook post from the Embassy.

Franz-Michael Mellbin, Danish Ambassador to the Philippines recently took part in a Strategic Whole-of-Government Forum organised by the Philippines’ Anti-Red Tape Authority, which brought together government agencies and private-sector stakeholders from the shipbuilding and ship-repair sector.

The discussions identified permits, licences and regulatory procedures as some of the challenges affecting the competitiveness and growth of the industry.

Mellbin also met with officials from the Maritime Industry Authority to discuss how Danish technology could support the digitalisation of government services and case management.

The cooperation is part of Denmark’s support for the revitalisation of the Philippine shipbuilding and ship-repair industry.

The Philippines is already a major shipbuilding country, and the Danish embassy said the collaboration aims to help improve the sector’s business environment and competitiveness.
