Swedish man, 77, died of heart attack on beach in Trat

A 77-year-old Swedish man was found floating face-down in the water near Saikhao Beach, Koh Chang, Trat, Thailand on the evening of May 23, 2019.

Head of Marine Safety Center at Koh Chang were notified of an unconscious foreigner near Saikhao Beach. The rescue team then rushed to the scene where they found the man unconscious and floating face-down in the water about 50 meters from the shore. The rescue operation took place immediately after the man was pulled out from the water.

The man was later identified as 77 years old Walter Eugen Schaefle, a Swedish tourist. He was sent to a hospital after the rescue team was unable to bring his pulse back. Later, the hospital pronounced the Swedish man is dead and the cause might be a heart failure.

Mr Schaefle’s relatives said Mr. Schaefle loved to go swimming in this area for 1-2 hours everyday. Mr. Schaefle’s body is currently under the identifying process for the apparent cause of death.
