Swedish Queen feeling better after cancelling Singapore visit due to illness

Last week, Swedish Queen Silvia canceled an official state visit to Singapore due to health concerns. The Swedish royal family has now provided an update on the 80-year-old queen’s condition following her battle with a “serious respiratory infection.”

The royal family cited “consideration for the hosts in Singapore and the rest of the delegation” as the reason for the queen’s withdrawal from the state visit, emphasizing that she did not want to risk exposing others to illness.

While a similar respiratory infection tragically claimed the life of Princess Yuriko of Japan in mid-November, the situation for Queen Silvia is not as severe.

“The queen is feeling better, and her schedule for next week is in place,” said Margretha Thorgren, the head of communications for the royal court, in a statement to Svensk Damtidning.

Earlier this year, the queen captured attention by making public appearances despite her health challenges. Notably, she attended an event with a noticeable black eye when the Finnish presidential couple visited Sweden.
