Swedish tennis player Elias Ymer collapsed twice during his opening-round match at the Zhangjiagang Challenger in China on Tuesday, September 1.
Ymer was playing Taiwan’s Hsu Yu-hsiou and was serving for the second set at 5-3 when he suddenly fell to the court. He briefly got back up but collapsed again moments later.
Medical staff attended to Ymer, who received treatment before attempting to continue the match. However, he retired at 5-5 in the second set, giving Hsu the victory after he had won the first set 7-6 (4).
According to the ATP, nausea was behind Ymer’s physical problems, while the hot and humid conditions were also reported to have contributed to his exhaustion.
The 30-year-old Swede is currently ranked around No. 204 in the ATP rankings.
