Finland beats Hong Kong in global tennis tournament

Hong Kong lost 3–1 to Finland on Sunday at Victoria Park in a Davis Cup World Group I playoff in tennis.

The defeat means Hong Kong will play in World Group II in September. The city was seeking a first World Group I berth in over 30 years.

Finland won Sunday’s doubles match 6–4, 7–5. Patrik Niklas-Salminen and Otto Virtanen beat Coleman Wong and Nicholas Cheng.

Virtanen then sealed Finland’s victory in reverse singles. He beat Wong 7–5, 6–2 after also defeating Cheng on Saturday.
