Swedish tourist rescued after jumping into sea near Koh Chang

Swedish tourist threw his bag into the sea before jumping in, prompting a rescue operation at a ferry in Thailand.

A 28-year-old Swedish tourist, Lars Emil Tobias Sodergren, was rescued near Koh Chang after jumping into the sea on November 19, 2024. Witnesses reported that the man threw his bag overboard before leaping in.

Ferry staff responded swiftly, using a life ring to pull him to safety after turning the vessel around. He was found weak and struggling to breathe and was transported to Laem Ngop Hospital by rescue volunteers from Sawang Boonchuay Dharma.

Rescuers noted that his condition was critical during transport, requiring extensive cleanup of the vehicle afterward. The incident remains under investigation.

Medical staff confirmed that the tourist’s condition has since stabilized. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
