Vietnam sees 41% growth in international tourist arrivals, including more Swedish visitors

Vietnam tourism growth

Vietnam has experienced a remarkable 41% growth in international tourist arrivals between January and October 2024, welcoming over 14 million visitors during this period. This significant growth comes as the country approaches its ambitious goal of attracting 17 to 18 million international visitors by the end of the year, according to a recent report from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Growing interest from Sweden

Among the European countries contributing to this rise, Sweden has played a notable role, with an increase in visitors taking advantage of Vietnam’s appealing climate and diverse tourist offerings. In October alone, arrivals from Sweden, alongside visitors from Switzerland and France, saw an impressive uptick, collectively making a strong impact on Vietnam’s tourism landscape.

South Korea continues to be the largest source of international tourists for Vietnam, contributing more than 3.7 million arrivals in the first ten months of 2024. Following South Korea are China, Taiwan, the United States, Japan, India, and Australia. However, the increase in European visitors, particularly from Sweden, highlights a shifting interest in Vietnam as a favored travel destination for the Nordic countries.

Peak travel season ahead

The period from October to March is traditionally considered peak season for international tourism in Vietnam, especially for European travelers. The combination of favorable weather and Vietnam’s rich cultural experiences makes it an attractive destination for Swedish tourists seeking an exotic getaway.

Despite a slight dip in visitors from some Asian markets, including Japan, Malaysia, Laos, and Singapore, travel agencies report a steady flow of tourists from Europe during this thriving season. The country’s welcoming atmosphere and range of activities continue to entice visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at VND690 trillion (approximately US$27 billion) from January to October.

As Vietnam solidifies its role as a key player in the global tourism market, the growing interest from Swedish travelers reflects the country’s appeal and potential for future growth in international visitation. With nearly two months left in the year, tourism officials remain optimistic about reaching their target and further showcasing what Vietnam has to offer to both Swedish and global tourists alike.
