Thailand’s Ambassador to Denmark, H.E. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, visited Bornholm in June to attend Folkemødet 2026, meet the local Thai community and explore opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand reports.

During Folkemødet, Denmark’s largest annual public debate forum, the ambassador took part in discussions on international relations, innovation, sustainability and the green transition.

She also visited the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO₂ Research Center, where she discussed carbon capture and storage technologies and the role of science and innovation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The ambassador and her delegation later met with Baltic Energy Island, a project seeking to develop Bornholm into a regional hub for wind energy and green innovation. They were briefed on plans to transform the old power plant in Rønne into an innovation and learning centre.

The visit also included a meeting with around 80 members of the Thai community on Bornholm, many of whom work in restaurants, massage and spa businesses. The delegation listened to their experiences and provided consular advice.
