Members of the Thai community in Denmark joined Ambassador Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang at Wat Pa Copenhagen on 12 October for a Buddhist ceremony honouring the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The gathering marked the king’s memorial day, known as Navamindra Maharaj Day, which falls on 13 October. Diplomats, embassy staff and representatives of Thailand’s Office of Commercial Affairs in Copenhagen also attended.

Six monks lead prayers

Phra Vithesvachirakitti, the temple’s abbot, led six monks in chanting Buddhist blessings during the ceremony, organised by the Royal Thai Embassy.

The ambassador lit incense and candles and placed ceremonial offerings before a portrait of the late king. She also presented robes to the monks, performed a traditional water-pouring ritual and joined in giving alms.

In a report published on 15 October, the embassy said it had also arranged a memorial altar with the king’s portrait and ceremonial offerings at its premises. The display will remain throughout October.
