Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyễn Việt Sơn, has sought Finnish cooperation on reliable, low-emission electricity for data centres and artificial intelligence facilities during talks with Finland’s trade minister Ville Tavio in Hanoi on 15 October.
The meeting explored how Finnish technology and companies could support Vietnam’s digital expansion and energy transition. According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sơn expressed interest in power supplies that can expand alongside growing demand.
As previously reported by ScandAsia, Tavio is visiting Vietnam as part of a Finnish business mission to Indonesia and Vietnam.
The two sides also discussed possible financing support through Finnvera, Finland’s official export credit agency. Finnish representatives raised the importance of stable and predictable electricity pricing to support investment decisions.
Finnish companies join construction talks
At a separate meeting with Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyễn Tường Văn, Tavio was accompanied by representatives from Nokia Vietnam, Vaisala, Finnvera, Finnpartnership and Miltton Group.
The delegation presented technologies intended to shorten construction times and reduce costs. Discussions covered smart and sustainable transport infrastructure, digitalisation, green cities, aviation, maritime transport and infrastructure financing.
Tavio expressed interest in connecting Finnish companies with major Vietnamese construction businesses. Văn said his ministry was ready to facilitate contacts and could organise conferences and workshops where Finnish businesses could introduce their technologies to Vietnamese companies.
The construction talks also followed up on exchanges during Vietnamese ministry officials’ visits to Finland in May.
The meetings identified potential areas for cooperation, but neither account announced a new commercial contract or confirmed project financing.
