The Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen joined members of the Thai community for a Buddhist celebration at Wat Pa Lolland in southern Denmark on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

The gathering marked Asalha Bucha Day and included a traditional candle-casting ceremony. Diplomats, embassy staff and their spouses joined members of the Thai community for morning prayers, chanting, alms-giving and food offerings to Buddhist monks.

Thailand’s Ambassador to Denmark, Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, led the formal part of the event, while the religious ceremony was led by Phra Videsh Vajirakitti.

During the gathering, the ambassador thanked members of the Thai community who had worked together to prepare food stalls for the many participants.

She also encouraged Thais living in Denmark to take part in future activities organised by the embassy.

Asalha Bucha Day commemorates the Buddha’s first sermon and is considered one of the most important dates in the Buddhist calendar.
