Sweden’s Ambassador to Thailand, Anna Hammargren, attended the opening of the Second Ukrainian Film Festival in Bangkok on 4 August 2026.

The festival was organised by the Embassy of Ukraine in Thailand to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

The opening included a screening of director Sergei Parajanov’s Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, a landmark of Ukrainian cinema depicting the culture and traditions of the Hutsul people in the Carpathian Mountains.

In connection with the event, the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok reiterated Sweden’s solidarity with Ukraine ahead of Ukrainian Independence Day on 24 August.

“Sweden stands firmly with Ukraine. Our support remains unwavering – for as long as it takes,” the embassy stated.

The festival’s public screenings took place at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre on 5 and 6 August. The programme included Ukrainian dramas, documentaries and a family adventure film dealing with the country’s culture, history and wartime experiences.

The full festival programme was published by the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
