Thailand plans to provide financial support to foreign tourists stranded in the country due to global airspace closures linked to the escalating Middle East crisis, Government Public Relations Department (PRD) Thailand reports.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has activated its Foreign Tourists Assistance Fund, allowing compensation of 2,000 baht per day per tourist in force majeure cases such as flight cancellations and airspace shutdowns. Payments can reach a maximum of 20,000 baht per person.
The support is intended as emergency relief when disruptions become severe and prolonged, and when hotels and tourism operators are no longer able to cover the costs of food and accommodation for affected visitors.
According to the ministry, a number of international tourists are currently unable to leave Thailand due to cancelled flights connected to the Middle East conflict. Authorities are coordinating with industry groups to assist both inbound and outbound travellers.
In Phuket, local officials together with tourism associations have urged hotels to waive rescheduling and cancellation fees, offer special rates for extended stays, and provide updated travel information to guests.
The fund is financed through an annual allocation from the government’s national budget.
