What was meant to be a quiet journey home has turned into days of uncertainty.
After three weeks in Pattaya, Per Bjørn Lund Jensen and Charlotte Rose from northern Denmark are now stranded in Thailand, TV2 Nord reports. Their flight home to Aalborg, with a stopover in Dubai, was cancelled as airspace across parts of the Middle East closed following the escalating conflict in the region.
The couple had planned to fly with Emirates from Bangkok via Dubai to Europe. But after attacks involving the United States, Israel and Iran led to retaliatory strikes across several countries, multiple nations shut down their airspace. As a result, flights have been grounded and routes disrupted.
– We don’t really know what will happen or how we’ll get home, says Per from Pattaya.
– We are not in danger, but it feels unsafe and uncertain.
Left on their own
Their family had already returned to Denmark, and the couple are now dealing with the situation by themselves in Thailand. They have been searching for alternative routes through cities such as Beijing, Hamburg or Amsterdam, but seats are scarce and options limited.
The couple say they have received little assistance from the airline and have been advised to find new solutions themselves and apply for a refund later.
– We lack clear information to plan our return, says Charlotte.
– We just hope we can find a solution soon.
Per and Charlotte are among many travellers affected by the widespread cancellations as tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt international air traffic.
