Trump sends hostage envoy to A$AP Rocky trial

American President Donald Trump has sent a special envoy for hostage negotiations, Robert O’Brien to Sweden to attend the trial of Rakim Mayers – also known as the rapper A$AP Rocky.

The move has been called “shameless abuse of power” by critics, who ask how the world will ever again take this diplomat seriously in a real hostage crisis, when he has allowed his office to be used for this stunt. In particular when Americans jailed in countries with questionable judicial systems are left to fend for themselves.

Rakim Mayers and his two aides, who are likewise jailed pending trial but without the President’s atten tion, pleaded as expected not guilty in the high profile court case. The case has enraged not only the fans of the American musician but also Swedish people in general who feel hurt by the American President’s indication that the independence and fairness of their judicial system can be doubted.
