Sjømannskirken – the Norwegian Church Abroad – in Pattaya will join Norwegian churches around the world in marking Sjømannskirken’s Day on Sunday, 30 August.

The local programme will run from 10.00 to 14.10, with a church service scheduled from 11.00 to 12.00.

The service will focus on Sjømannskirken’s role as a “church in the world’s everyday life” and the organisation’s work since it was established in 1864. It will include prayers for its international activities and traditional Norwegian seafarers’ music.

Sjømannskirken first established a presence in Thailand in Bangkok in 1999. It moved its operations to Pattaya in 2005, where a larger Norwegian community had developed.

The Pattaya church now serves as a religious, cultural and social meeting place for Norwegians living in or visiting Thailand. Its work also includes supporting Norwegians experiencing illness, accidents, imprisonment or other difficult situations in the country.

More information is available in Sjømannskirken’s event calendar.
