Election observers to Indonesia

Sweden’s government sends ten election observers to monitor the parliamentary and presidential elections in Indonesia.
The assignment takes place within the framework of the EU Commission’s election observation mission.
Indonesia holds its third free parliamentary elections 5 April. A first round of the presidential election is due 5 July. If a second round is needed, it happens on 20 September.
Some 300 foreign observers will monitor the elections.
“It’s important that both the parliamentary and the presidential election are conducted in a free and democratic manner. By sending election observers, Sweden can contribute to the development of a functioning electoral system in the country,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation Carin Jämtin.
