APM Terminals takes stake in major Hai Phong

APM Terminals has taken a 49 percent stake in a major new Hai Phong port, deepening Danish logistics ties with Vietnam.

APM Terminals, part of Danish shipping group A.P. Møller – Mærsk, has become a 49 percent minority shareholder in the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) in northern Vietnam. The company will also act as operating partner alongside Vietnam’s Hateco Group.

The move follows three years of cooperation developing the terminal from a greenfield project to full operations. The facility can now handle vessels of up to 18,000 TEU.

Located in the Lach Huyen area of Hai Phong, HHIT is described as the largest and most advanced deep-water port in northern Vietnam. Its position supports direct trade links between northern Vietnam and markets in Europe and the United States.

APM Terminals said the partnership reflects a long-term commitment to Vietnam and aims to support more efficient and sustainable logistics. The project has included sharing expertise in automation, artificial intelligence and decarbonisation.

The terminal has also been included in the Gemini Cooperation network, operated by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, linking Asia with Europe and other global routes.
