The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new Secondary School Campus of Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School, set to open in August 2017, took place on 4 February on the future site.
Members of the Board of Directors at Bangkok International Preparatory & Secondary School (Bangkok Prep), and the Head of School, Mrs Valerie Thomas-Peter had invited representatives from the Primary and Secondary Student Councils, parents and teachers to join in.
Invitees were asked to “break-the-ground” with the Bangkok Prep’s commemorative shovels to mark the auspicious beginning of the construction of the new Secondary School Campus, located on Sukhumvit 77 amid a secure and prime residential area of central Bangkok.
The environment at the new Secondary School Campus is carefully designed and planned to compliment the natural surroundings. The School’s priority is to provide a safe, comfortable and visually stimulating school environment for the students and teachers of Bangkok Prep.
The focus is to provide a space that’s ideal for teaching and learning – with generously sized and carefully planned learning spaces enhancing 21st century teaching, learning and full student engagement.
All of the buildings, elevated in order to create shaded areas on the ground level, are linked together by a main pedestrian walkway. The modern design of the new Secondary School Campus buildings will feature a energy saving concept involving solar panels and a special building structure that allows the school to capitalize on the source of natural light.
“Elements such as these will establish Bangkok Prep as the 21st century international school with an environmental conscious mind,” said Mr Sinn Ponghanyut, the project’s chief architect from Plan Architect.
The new Secondary School Campus will feature state-of-the art learning spaces, an Aquatics Centre with an olympic sized swimming pool, an indoor Sports Hall, a 400-seat auditorium, a theatre, a large outdoor sports field and tennis courts.
“Our new campus reflects the need to expand our facilities to meet the demand of our growing student body, specifically that of Secondary students”, explained Valerie Thomas-Peter, the Head of School. “The facility will enable us to deliver the School’s mission to provide a high quality and stimulating learning environment, where students can prepare for life and realise their full potential.”
The construction that started in February 2016 is expected to be completed by August 2017. Approximately 400 students, aged 11 to 18 years old, will move from the current campus on Sukhumvit 53 to the new Secondary School Campus on Sukhumvit 77.
The campus on Sukhumvit 53 will be exclusively dedicated to the Primary School and will continue to cater for children aged 3 to 11 years old.
