Cambodian authorities have denied allegations that two activists, including a Norwegian national, were handed over to Vietnam after being detained in Cambodia.

The case has raised concerns over the treatment of activists moving across borders in mainland Southeast Asia, with Cambodian authorities rejecting claims that the individuals were transferred to Vietnamese custody.

The activists include an Australian and a Norwegian citizen, according to the Phnom Penh Post.

The allegations come amid wider scrutiny of Cambodia’s handling of political and activist cases and its cooperation with neighbouring Vietnam.

The case is also likely to draw attention from Norway, given the involvement of a Norwegian citizen.

ScandAsia readers will be particularly interested in any response from Norwegian diplomatic authorities and further information about the Norwegian national’s current whereabouts and status.
