Norwegian authorities have deported a Chinese citizen from Norway for five years after a traffic accident in Balsfjord, Troms, Dagbladet reports.

Police said a Danish-registered rental car crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a heavy goods vehicle on 10 February.

The driver received a 12,000 kroner fine for violating Norway’s Road Traffic Act section 3, police said. Norway’s immigration authorities later issued a five-year deportation order.

Police said one passenger in the rental car was seriously injured and flown by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Norway in Tromsø.

Troms Police District said it has seen more cases this winter where tourists are involved in serious traffic incidents. Police also referenced a January crash where two women died after a tourist from Indonesia crossed into oncoming traffic.
