A Report from China Daily shows Sweden among the destinations experiencing a sharp rise in Chinese bookings during China’s upcoming National Day Golden Week holiday, according to Beijing-based online travel agency Qunar. The country is listed alongside Egypt, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Cambodia as recording the highest growth rates in hotel reservations.
The 2025 Golden Week holiday runs from 1 to 8 October, extended by one day due to the Mid-Autumn Festival falling within the period. Chinese tourism services firm U-tour reported a 130 percent year-on-year increase in the number of consumers planning trips abroad, with more than 2,800 hotels worldwide already booked by early September.
While nearby destinations such as Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam remain the most popular, the growth in interest for Sweden highlights a broader trend of Chinese travellers expanding their horizons beyond Asia. The rise comes as several countries have introduced new visa-free entry arrangements with China, though Sweden is not among them.
Inbound tourism to China is also on the rise during the holiday, with popular destinations including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenzhen. The top growth markets for inbound travellers are Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Spain, Hungary and Saudi Arabia.
