The Royal Danish Embassy in Manila partnered with Novo Nordisk Philippines and Quezon City Government to organise the country’s first Obesity Summit on Wednesday 10 September 2025. Several Danish companies also took part in the initiative.

The summit in Quezon City focused on debunking myths and addressing the realities of living with obesity. It highlighted the importance of a whole-of-society approach, particularly for children and adolescents. According to the Danish Embassy, Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin stressed that young people need a nurturing environment and support system to manage the disease.

Participants included representatives from the Department of Education, medical professionals, food manufacturers, city health practitioners, teachers, parents and students. During the event, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte launched the new Healthy QC ordinance, designed to expand existing programmes and prioritise residents’ well-being.

Danish contributions were clearly visible. LEGO and Flying Tiger Copenhagen engaged children with interactive games to promote creativity and physical activity, while Arla presented healthy dairy-based food options together with local partner Century Pacific Food’s tuna and non-meat “baon” meals. Novo Nordisk underlined its commitment through awareness efforts and research.

The Danish Embassy stated that the summit showed how promoting better health can also be fun and meaningful. It added that the partners will continue to work together on initiatives to build healthier communities “one child, one city at a time.”
