
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will commence a two-day working visit to Malaysia starting Tuesday, December 11, 2024.
In a statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry announced that Rasmussen plans to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting will focus on strengthening Malaysia-Denmark bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation, particularly in green transition, circular economy, and health initiatives.
The two leaders will also discuss the ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship for 2025, Denmark’s upcoming non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council for 2025-2026, and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
This visit marks Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s first trip to Malaysia since he took office in December 2022. He bring senior officials from Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with him and will attend a reception to celebrate the reopening of the Royal Danish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the statement, Malaysia’s total trade with Denmark rose by 12.9 percent to RM2.19 billion (US$1 = RM4.42) between January and October 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, Malaysia hosts over 100 Danish companies, which have invested more than RM2.2 billion in the manufacturing sector, generating approximately 5,024 job opportunities as of June 2024.
