Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Martin Lidegaard has opened the Danish Life Science Pavilion at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.
The pavilion features 12 Danish companies and forms part of Denmark’s efforts to strengthen healthcare cooperation with China.
Lidegaard attended the opening alongside Danish Ambassador to China Michael Starbæk. The exhibition runs from 5 to 10 November 2026.
“I hope this expo will forge new connections between Danish and Chinese companies, researchers and healthcare organisations,” Lidegaard said.
“The future will not be built by countries alone, it will be built by people with the courage to work across borders.”
Danish companies explore opportunities in Chinese healthcare
During the expo, Lidegaard also opened the Sino-Danish Health and Welfare Conference.
The conference brought together Danish and Chinese authorities, healthcare institutions and life science companies to discuss health policy, regulation and access to innovative medicines and medical devices.
Healthcare Denmark also launched a new white paper during the conference.
Martin Behbahani, Team Leader for Health at the Danish Embassy in China, presented the embassy’s continued support for Danish life science companies.
The embassy highlighted companies including Ambu, ALK, Coloplast, Demant, LEO Pharma, Lundbeck and Novo Nordisk.
Their activities cover areas such as allergy treatment, hearing health, wound care and chronic diseases.
China’s ageing population and growing healthcare needs are creating opportunities for Danish companies, according to Danish Industry.
Minister meets Danish businesses in China
Lidegaard also toured the exhibition and met representatives from several Danish companies operating in China.
Among them were LEGO’s China Market Group Head Maciej Selinski, Danfoss China President Arthur Xu and Novo Nordisk China President Yan Cai.
The minister’s visit forms part of a broader trip to China focused on business cooperation, green technologies and Danish competitiveness.
The China International Import Expo takes place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai until 10 November.
