Danish technology company Topsoe has signed a new cooperation agreement with Vietnam’s PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo–Phú Mỹ) to expand their longstanding partnership into low-carbon energy and advanced chemical technologies.
The agreement was signed in Copenhagen on 19 October 2026, during a visit by a senior delegation from Vietnam’s state-owned energy group Petrovietnam. It was subsequently exchanged at the Vietnam–Denmark Business Forum on 20 October, attended by Vietnamese President Tô Lâm and King Frederik X as part of the Vietnamese state visit to Denmark.
The agreement builds on more than two decades of cooperation between Topsoe, formerly Haldor Topsoe, and PVFCCo, a subsidiary of Petrovietnam.
Topsoe originally supplied the ammonia production technology for the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant in southern Vietnam. Since then, the companies have worked together on plant operations, maintenance and technical improvements.
According to PVFCCo, the plant’s ammonia production unit has achieved a record of 678 consecutive days of operation and received three operational excellence certificates from Topsoe.
New focus on low-carbon technologies
Under the new agreement, the companies will explore opportunities to improve chemical production through advanced gas processing, energy recovery, more efficient resource use and reduced emissions.
They will also evaluate technologies for producing low-carbon ammonia, green hydrogen and related energy products, while continuing technical cooperation and staff training.
The agreement supports PVFCCo’s ambition to diversify beyond traditional fertiliser production into higher-value chemicals and cleaner energy technologies.
No investment value or timetable for specific new projects was announced.
The agreement was among a series of Danish–Vietnamese business partnerships presented during President Tô Lâm’s state visit, which also saw the two countries upgrade their diplomatic relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
