Denmark has committed additional USD 720,000 to further strengthen the efforts of the Myanmar Forest Department in fostering resilience of coastal communities in Rakhine and Taninthayi against the adverse impacts of climate change.
The commitment was made by the Danish Ambassador, Mr John Nielsen at the Steering Committee Meeting for the Danish-funded Programme on Climate Adaption for Coastal Communities by the end of November 2020
The additional funds brings the Danish contribution to a total of USD 6.32 million in support of the Myanmar Forest Department’s efforts to tackle climate change. Under the five-year programme that started in 2018, nearly 20,000 acres of mangrove forests have been designated as protected public forests.
