On the April 30th, Vietnamese community held “Valborg Festival 2023” in Ostergotland region, Sweden.
Attending the event were Vietnamese Ambassador to Sweden Phan Dang Duong, leaders of some Vietnamese associations in Sweden, a large number of Vietnamese and local people.
“Valborg Festival”, also known as “The Spring Festival”, is a folk festival of Sweden and some other European countries, taking place on the night of April 30 every year. Traditionally, in the festival, Swedish often burn fire to ward off wild animals, and organize festivals, singing, dancing to say goodbye to the cold long winter and welcome a new warm spring. With that meaning, the Vietnamese community in Sweden have turned the “Valborg” into an annual occasion to meet each other and enjoy their traditional cultural performances.
At the festival, viewers had occasion to learn about the meaning of “Valborg Festival”, enjoy the unique performances of a number of Vietnamese talented artists. The traditional Vietnamese dishes introduced in the program are also well received by Vietnamese and local people.
Addressing at the festival, Ambassador Phan Dang Duong appreciated the idea of organizing the “Valborg Festival” of the Vietnamese Association in Ostergotland as well as the enthusiastic contribution of the Vietnamese artists and people from all over Sweden. Through such events, the Vietnamese community in Sweden have more opportunities to show the solidarity to each other and help the younger generation contact with Vietnamese national culture, he stressed.
Mr. Ambassador hoped the Swedish authority in all levels continue to create more favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work and study in Sweden, integrate well into the local society and contribute to the relationship between the two countries.
