Filipinos in the Nordic country are among the best integrated foreign communities, according to Norwegian Ambassador Christian Halaas Lyster. He highlighted their contribution during a recent meeting in the Philippines.

The praise comes as the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), led by Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II, shifts toward more active engagement with Filipinos abroad.

Filipinos play a key role in Norway’s maritime sector, where they have long been employed by shipping companies. Many also work in healthcare, especially as nurses.

The community, estimated at 20,000 to 25,000 people, may be small but has a strong impact on key industries.

During the meeting, both sides discussed closer cooperation, including worker protection, data sharing, and cultural exchange. They also addressed broader migration challenges, including efforts to combat human trafficking, prevent domestic violence, and respond to changes in the global labour market.
