Finland closes embassy in Yangon on 28 February

Finland’s embassy in Yangon will close permanently on 28 February 2026.

The Embassy of Finland in Yangon will close permanently from 28 February 2026, the ministry said in a statement.

After the closure, consular services will be handled by the Embassy of Finland in Bangkok. This includes passports, residence permits and notarial matters.

For consular matters, the embassy has advised contacting: [email protected].

For residence permits, it listed [email protected].

The statement also said Germany will represent Finland in visa matters. For other issues, it referred enquiries to Finland’s Foreign Ministry Unit for South and Southeast Asia at [email protected].

The Embassy of Finland in Yangon has been part of Finland’s official presence in Myanmar since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1954. Over the years, Finland has supported cooperation projects linked to education and vocational training in Myanmar, while the embassy has also served as a contact point for Finnish citizens and local partners. The mission’s closure on 28 February 2026 marks the end of Finland’s permanent embassy presence in Yangon.
