Finnish foreign ministry releases 2025 report

Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and its missions provided consular services to about 245,000 Finnish people in 2025, the ministry annouces in a press release. The ministry’s 24/7 service was contacted around 6,700 times.

The highest number of assistance requests came from major Finnish travel destinations. These included Spain, Germany, Thailand, Estonia and Sweden.

The ministry said its consular assistance unit handled 610 deaths abroad in 2025. It also recorded 71 crime victims, 204 illness-related requests, and 147 arrests or detentions.

Travel advisories were the most read content on the ministry’s website in 2025. Advisories for popular destinations, including Thailand, attracted the most readers. Especially

Nearly 230,000 people filed travel notifications for trips to 216 countries or regions, up about 11% year on year. The ministry also issued 15,947 new passports and 5,559 identity cards.
