Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, is visiting Indonesia and Vietnam this week, accompanied by Finnish companies seeking new business opportunities in digital technology, energy and healthcare.

The minister’s visit to Indonesia takes place from 12 to 14 October 2026, followed by Vietnam on 15 and 16 October. The mission is organised through Team Finland and aims to strengthen trade relations and develop commercial partnerships in two of Southeast Asia’s largest and fastest-growing markets.

In Jakarta, Tavio is scheduled to meet Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso and open a Trade and Investment Forum. Discussions will cover bilateral trade, Indonesia’s efforts to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the EU–Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is expected to enter into force at the beginning of 2027.

The Finnish business delegation includes representatives from the energy, digitalisation and healthcare sectors. The programme will give participating companies opportunities to present their technologies and establish contacts with Indonesian businesses and government institutions.

“Indonesia, a G20 economy, is a large-scale market and one of our most important Asian trading partners. The forthcoming free trade agreement is expected to boost exports and promote a favourable business environment,” Tavio said in a statement issued by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Indonesia is investing heavily in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, smart energy systems and healthcare facilities. According to Team Finland, the country plans to build or renovate up to 400 hospitals, creating opportunities for Finnish suppliers of medical technologies and digital healthcare solutions.

Vietnam visit focuses on digital infrastructure and sustainable development

In Hanoi, Tavio is scheduled to meet representatives of five Vietnamese ministries, covering industry and trade, science and technology, foreign affairs, construction, and agriculture and the environment.

The discussions will focus on digital infrastructure, data centres, sustainable energy, circular economy solutions and smart cities.

The minister will also meet Finnish companies already operating in Vietnam and representatives of leading Vietnamese businesses.

Vietnam is Finland’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia, according to the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The visit is intended to turn the existing strategic partnership between the two countries into more concrete economic cooperation.

“Finland and Vietnam are entering a new phase of cooperation, with innovation, digitalisation and sustainable infrastructure driving growth. Our goal is to build practical partnerships that will deliver tangible benefits to both countries,” Tavio said.

The Team Finland programme identifies growing opportunities for Finnish companies in Vietnam’s expanding digital infrastructure and healthcare sectors, as well as in technologies supporting the country’s transition towards a circular economy.

The two-country mission reflects Finland’s efforts to strengthen its commercial presence in Southeast Asia, where demand for advanced technology, modern infrastructure and sustainable industrial solutions is creating opportunities for Nordic businesses.
