Danish shipping group AP Moller–Maersk has opened a new flagship logistics center in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. The facility is one of the company’s largest warehousing investments globally and is intended to serve customers in China, the wider Asia-Pacific region, and beyond.
Maersk has invested more than 140 million$ in the center, which covers 113,000 square meters and provides 147,000 square meters of storage space. The site is designed as a multi-purpose hub offering a full suite of fulfilment and value-added logistics services.
Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc said China is both the world’s largest exporter and a key consumer market, and that the new logistics center will enhance the group’s omnichannel fulfilment capabilities while strengthening connections between China and international markets. He described the project as part of Maersk’s ongoing effort to adapt its logistics solutions and support customers facing changing trade conditions.
Silvia Ding, managing director of Maersk China, said the country’s foreign trade is shifting from an export-driven model to a more diversified mix of export, import, and transshipment. She added that the new warehouse allows customers to centralize inventory management and efficiently handle both B2B and B2C demand from a single, integrated platform.
