Thai police are investigating after five firearms and 100 rounds of ammunition were discovered inside a storage locker rented by a Swedish national in Patong, Phuket, local media reports.

The weapons were found on 12 May at Mespace Self Storage in Jungceylon shopping centre in Patong after staff opened the locker due to more than 120 days of unpaid rent. The locker had reportedly been rented under the name Elmi Ahmed Mohamed.

Police from Patong Police Station inspected the locker and found four Glock 9mm pistols, one CZ pistol and two boxes of 9mm ammunition containing 100 rounds in total.

According to Thai media reports, the storage company contacted police immediately as firearms are prohibited under the company’s storage rules. Initial police checks found the firearms were registered, but investigators are still examining whether they were legally possessed.

The Swedish renter had not been located as of 14 May, and the investigation is ongoing.
