New Ambassador reflects on Singapore-Denmark anniversary

Denmark and Singapore mark 60 years of diplomatic ties in 2025. Surprisingly short time but nevertheless a milestone that underscores the strong and evolving relationship between the two nations. Since establishing formal relations on 28 September 1965, the two countries have fostered close economic and political cooperation, with Denmark maintaining a strong presence in Singapore through trade, investment, and innovation.

To commemorate this anniversary, Denmark’s newly appointed Ambassador to Singapore, Jakob Brix Tange, who presented his credentials in September 2024, noted that Denmark and Singapore share a forward-thinking approach, particularly in areas like sustainability, digitalization, and maritime decarbonization.

“This 60th anniversary is not just a celebration of the past but a recognition of how our nations continue to evolve together,” says Ambassador Tange.

“Denmark and Singapore are among the most innovative and digitalized economies in the world, and our collaboration in areas such as renewable energy and green shipping corridors is only growing stronger.”

Over 350 Danish companies are currently operating in Singapore, many contributing to the city-state’s green transition and technological advancements. The two nations are expected to use this milestone to deepen their strategic cooperation, with events and high-level visits planned throughout the year.

As the anniversary unfolds, both countries are looking ahead to new opportunities that will further strengthen their partnership, ensuring that Denmark and Singapore’s diplomatic ties remain resilient and future-focused for decades to come.

In the interview, the ambassador also recalls the personal journey that brought him to this post at this significant  occasion.
