Norway’s ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Stein Iversen, has visited two Norwegian-linked businesses in southern Vietnam, highlighting cooperation between the two countries in shipbuilding and plastic recycling.
During his visit to VARD’s shipyard in Vung Tau, Iversen saw how Norwegian expertise and technology are being combined with Vietnamese capabilities to build vessels for customers around the world.
The delegation also visited Circular Plastic Company (CPC) in Ho Chi Minh City, a Vietnamese plastic recycling company producing recycled PET flakes and food-grade recycled PET resin for domestic and European markets.
CPC received a USD 4 million investment from Norway’s development finance institution Norfund earlier this year. The investment is intended to support the company’s expansion and increase its recycling capacity while reducing plastic pollution and emissions and creating additional jobs.
The embassy highlighted the two visits as examples of Norwegian-Vietnamese cooperation in different industries, with technology, employment and sustainable development as common themes.
The visit comes as Norway and Vietnam continue to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in areas including maritime industries, green transition and sustainable business.
