Norway’s designated ambassador to Vietnam, Stein Iversen, has met with Vietnam’s Ambassador to Norway, Le Thi Thu, ahead of his departure from Oslo for his new posting in Hanoi.
The meeting focused on the growing partnership between Norway and Vietnam and continued cooperation between the two countries, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Oslo.
Iversen is preparing to take up his position as Norway’s next ambassador to Vietnam. During their meeting, the two diplomats discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties in the years ahead.
The meeting follows a recent courtesy call by Ambassador Le Thi Thu on Vibeke Rysst-Jensen, Director General of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department for Protocol, Cultural Promotion and Consular Affairs. During the meeting, Le Thi Thu presented a copy of her Letter of Credentials from the President of Vietnam.
The diplomatic exchanges come as Norway and Vietnam mark 55 years of diplomatic relations, with both countries seeking to deepen their cooperation.
Norway and Vietnam have developed close ties in areas including trade, maritime affairs, energy, climate and sustainable development. Vietnam is also an increasingly important partner for Norway in Southeast Asia.
Iversen’s arrival in Hanoi is expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to build further on their bilateral cooperation.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Oslo said it looked forward to welcoming the designated ambassador to Hanoi.
