Norwegian aquaculture company Nordic Aqua Partners increased its salmon harvest in China by 35 percent in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter, as production at its land-based fish farm in Ningbo continues to expand.

The company harvested salmon with an average weight of 4.4 kilograms, measured as head-on gutted weight, according to its latest operational update released on 8 October.

Nordic Aqua operates a land-based salmon farming facility in Ningbo, south of Shanghai, producing Atlantic salmon for the Chinese market. The project combines Norwegian aquaculture expertise with local production, allowing fresh salmon to be supplied to Chinese consumers without long-distance air transport from Norway.

The third-quarter harvest reached 1,838 tonnes, up from 1,362 tonnes in the second quarter. The company reported that 95 percent of the fish harvested qualified for its highest quality grade.

Production during the quarter reached 2,233 tonnes, bringing the total standing biomass to 5,662 tonnes. According to Nordic Aqua, this corresponds to full production capacity for the first two stages of its Ningbo facility, which have a combined annual capacity of approximately 8,000 tonnes.

The company uses a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), which treats and reuses water in a controlled farming environment. Its longer-term development plan is to increase annual production capacity in China to 20,000 tonnes.

Nordic Aqua expects to harvest between 5,700 and 6,000 tonnes of salmon during 2026. The company reported good fish health and high survival rates, but did not disclose financial results in its latest operational update.

The company is listed on Euronext Growth Oslo and will publish its full third-quarter financial report on 12 November 2026.
