
A 34-year-old Norwegian tourist has died after being hit by a snorkelling boat while spearfishing off the coast of Nusa Lembongan, according to Dive Magazine citing local police reports.
According to local police reports, the accident happened Friday morning near Tanjung Pakaang, a busy marine tourism area popular with snorkelling and diving tourists.
Local reports said the area was busy with snorkelling tours, diving activity and boat traffic at the time of the accident.
The man, identified by the initials MEB, was reportedly at the surface of the water with a group of spearfishers when a snorkelling boat passed through the area and struck him.
Witnesses said the tourist disappeared underwater after the collision before being pulled back to the surface by a passenger from the boat.
CPR performed for one hour
He was evacuated to nearby Nusa Penida and taken to a medical clinic, where staff performed CPR for around an hour. However, doctors were unable to save him.
The body was later transferred to a hospital in Denpasar.
Police said the Norwegian suffered multiple serious injuries in the collision.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are interviewing witnesses and the boat crew.
