Shanghai event: Leadership Differences between the West and China

Leadership is an elusive concept and sometimes it seems that some people “just have it”. Finnish Business Council in Shanghai invites to a panel discussion on ‘Leadership – Differences between the East and the West’ on Friday 28 October 2016, a 8 – 10 am

Two recognized motivators will share their experience and expertise in how to reach challenging targets. Ms Tracy Huang, Managing Director of Uhde Thyssen Krupp and Ryan Flynn, Executive Vice President of Konecranes, will join forces to discuss leadership, motivation and getting results in China.

About the Speakers:
Tracy Huang is the Managing Director of Thyssen Krupp Uhde Shanghai. She has 24 years of experience in various industries, mainly from Thyssen Krupp. Throughout her career she has exceeded her financial targets manifold while driving a consistent, transparent corporate culture. She has a very high employee retention rate and an ability to make everyone work towards the same, challenging targets.

Tracy has worked mainly in multicultural environments, and has deep experience in leading companies with employees from different nationalities. Besides China, she has worked in South Africa, where she led a Joint Venture. Tracy is looking forward to sharing her experience in how to motivate Chinese, European and South African people.

Tracy holds an Engineering Degree and is just finalizing her MBA in Global and Local Business.

Ryan Flynn is an internationally accomplished Executive with a career spanning over 25 years. Ryan has led large organisations and multinational businesses in various industries across a global footprint in a cross cultural environment.

As former Executive Vice President and responsible for Konecranes’ EUR 1.2 billion equipment business, Ryan has a demonstrable experience in business leadership, governance, acquisitions, joint ventures and licensees across a global geographic landscape. Ryan was earlier Vice President, Strategy & Business Development at BlueScope Steel and formerly also with Konecranes from 2005-2013 where he was Asia-Pacific Regional President and earlier Director for Port Cranes & Lifttrucks businesses in Asia.

Ryan started his career in South Africa working for NFS Industrial Machinery, Afinta Motor Corporation and Standard Bank. He has been based in Shanghai since 2005. Ryan was awarded the Shanghai Magnolia award in September 2016. The award was set up by the Shanghai Government in 1989 to recognize the contribution of outstanding international friends to Shanghai’s development.

Ryan received his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Victoria University of Wellington New Zealand and a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa.

Ryan focuses on delivering result improvements and sustainable value creation, by the strategic resetting of business imperatives for both growth and profitability, developing organizations and realizing continuous improvements that foster business excellence.

Registration: Participation Fee for this event is 220,- RMB for Members and 500,- RMB for Non-Members.
