Sweden joins Thailand’ Cobra Gold 2026 as observer

Sweden will attend the Thailand–US Cobra Gold 2026 exercise as an observer during the 24 February–6 March drills.

Cobra Gold is an annual Thai–US-led multinational military exercise held in Thailand since 1982. It trains interoperability and includes humanitarian assistance and disaster relief elements.

Thailand and the United States will run Cobra Gold 2026 from 24 February to 6 March. The Royal Thai Armed Forces said more than 8,000 personnel from 30 countries will take part in a “heavy year” cycle.

This year, Sweden is listed among the 10 observer countries under the Combined Observer Liaison Team framework. The observer group also includes Brunei, Germany, Jordan, Laos, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

Planned activities include a command-and-control exercise, humanitarian and disaster relief events, and a field training phase. Training is set to cover amphibious landings, non-combatant evacuation, live-fire drills, air and missile defence, counter-drone operations and signals intelligence.

Cambodia is notably absent from this year’s Cobra Gold.
