Sweden-Phillipines discussed solutions to road congestion

Swedish Ambassador Harald Fries and Business Sweden’s Country Manager Mr. Ulf Wennblom met on 20th November 2019 with Senator Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Chairman Danilo Lim of MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority).

The discussion focused on efficient and environmentally friendly bus systems, including Swedish solutions to urban road congestion. Due to highly dense population and large numbers of personal cars in the capital city of The Philippines, people spent hours travelling on a daily basis. .

Ambassador Fries suggested establishing a modern bus system on the main highway in Metro Manila stretching 24 kilometers from one end of the metropolis to the other. Successful bus rapid transit systems with Swedish knowhow and buses have been established in Mexico City, Bogota and several other cities.

Scandasia asked how Ambassador Fries see the action taken towards solution suggested? “The citizens of Metro Manila want to see action immediately. And we are ready.” was his affirmation to the next positive change to Manila, Phillippines.
